Delivery Role

Location: Sherborne

Volunteer Driver/Delivery Team

Our volunteer delivery teams work in pairs, delivering food to clients in Sherborne and the surrounding villages. This is usually on Friday mornings, with some occasional extra days, for instance at Christmas. Delivery teams collect bags of food and essentials from the Depot then drive according to a pre-planned route (to minimise the number of drops per team), delivering to recipients’ doorsteps or safe places (we do not enter properties).

Hours as required in consultation with the rota administrator but typically two hours on a Friday morning. This is an open-ended arrangement, with a 3-month trial period.

  • Ensure food deliveries are made safely and to the correct address
  • Ensure all food safety and hygiene protocols are followed
  • Treat food bank clients with dignity and respect
  • To treat personal data/address details of clients securely and in the strictest confidence
  • To observe the food bank’s rules for delivery to homes (as will be explained during your induction)
  • Drivers must hold a current/valid driving licence and in-date vehicle tax, as well as appropriate insurance for making volunteer deliveries.
  • A good team player with excellent communication skills
  • An excellent timekeeper, arriving for your shift at the Depot on time
  • Ability to treat food bank data and client information in strict confidence
  • A confident and calm manner when speaking with others
  • Well organised and self-motivated
  • Aware of the health and safety of self and others
  • Physically fit, as this is a lifting and carrying role
  • A high standard of personal hygiene (hand sanitiser is provided)

Successful applicants will undergo an induction, initial training and Health & Safety briefing. In addition, delivery teams must undergo ‘Safeguarding Yourself and Others’ training as well as training in the rules and protocols specific to making deliveries.

Disclosure/Barring check (DBS) is not required for this role.
